As they drove home, Dad reached over and patted her leg. “Don’t you worry about Uncle Dave,” he said gently. “He’s been wrong before. We won’t give up just yet.”

Milly turned her stricken eyes to him. “But Dad! What if he’s right? What if we can’t train her?”

“That doesn’t sound like my Milly, giving up so easily.” He gave a small chuckle. “Your cow’s a feisty one alright. But she may have met her match in my strong–willed daughter.” He grinned at Milly. “What happens when the irresistible force meets the immoveable object, I wonder?”

That night, Milly decided to choose Maddie a better name. Lots of suggestions flew around, but in the end, Milly settled on Blossom.

“That’ll be hard to sing,” laughed Mom. “Bl Bl Bl Blossom…. adorable Blossom…”

“It’s not too hard,” retorted Milly. “Anyway, it’s a better name than Maddie.”

“Well,” commented Dad, “we’ll see if the name change does the trick tomorrow.”

“I’ll teach her,” said Milly with a look of grim determination on her face. “Just you wait and see. I’m not giving up!”

Mom laughed out loud. “Why am I not surprised? Of course you’ll tame her, darling. I don’t think anyone here doubts that for a moment.” She paused and then said, “Shame cows can’t read. Otherwise you could have worn your I’m the Boss tee shirt. That might just have done the trick.”
